Sangjani fruit market PC-I ready

By Fazal Sher

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has prepared PC-1 of Rs 2 billion fruit and vegetable market, set to be built at Sangjani. It has been designed as per the master plan by a consultant.

Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) would present the PC-1 to the CDA’s board of directors in the next meeting, a CDA official has told Daily Times. Following approval from the board, construction of the market would start, he said.

He said the consultant had designed the market on modern lines. The market would have a proper cold storage system, warehouses, ice factories, sale points, packing lots, weighbridges, trading blocks, an automobile workshop and auction centers. It would cover 55 acres of land, he said.

He said a mosque, restaurants and an administrative block having a conference room and public toilets would also be part of the market.

The CDA official said an integrated solid waste management system would be set up to ensure clean and healthy environment in the market. Under the master plan, fuel stations would also be set up near the market to facilitate visitors, he said.

He said the consultant had taken special care of drainage and sanitation system while designing the market. He said the CDA had planned opening small centers for wholesale of fruit and vegetable in different residential sectors.

The absence of proper solid waste management at the existing market had caused hygiene problems and affected business activity, he said. “Garbage heaps and rotten fruits are seen lying everywhere at the existing market,” he said.
