LAHORE - The sale of candles rose sharply here in the provincial metropolis due to the following the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) resorted to long spell of power outage, making the lives of masses particularly of the students more miserable.
The market sources said that Chinese candles are doing roaring business in the local markets, as these are low-priced as compared to the locally manufactured candles.
Taking advantage of the situation, the shopkeepers are selling the candles at high prices.
The power outage is affecting badly the students, as they are busy in examination these days. They are rushing to departmental stores to buy candle to continue their studies during loadshedding ahead of their scheduled examinations.
“Candles are being sold at high prices and the price of each candle varies from Rs 20 to Rs 80,” a shopkeeper in Johar Town area said.
He said that the Chinese candles are low-priced, therefore that are in high demand in the local market and the inflation-stricken masses have to bear this additional burden.
“Candles are being sold like hot cakes these days in the City, as people have thronged to stores to buy candles due to the worst power outage,” Ahmed Hassan, a store owners said, when contacted.
