Karachi

Amidst unending spells of load-shedding in the city, the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has announced the start of the commercial operation of its 50 —Megawatt (MW) rental power project in the megapols.

A KESC spokesperson said that the rental power project has been completed in less than six months from its announcement in September 2008. It will be providing additional capacity to Karachi’s grid in order to provide relief to the consumers by minimizing power shortfall in the city.

She claimed that the project has marked the fastest-ever addition of capacity to Karachi’s power grid, adding, it was completed in two phases of 25MW each. Installations have been made at two strategic sites of the city, one at the West Wharf Industrial area and the other 25MW at Haroonabad.

A KESC statement quoted KESC CEO Naveed Ismail as saying: “A hallmark of our new management style is getting tasks executed with world-class project management through our own skills and those of the global partners we now engage. The supply gap in the city’s electricity needs tactical solution, alongside long-term capital investment. Our team has worked with great skill to get this project done and we must commend them in doing this for Karachi’s benefit.”
