KARACHI: City Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal and Houston mayor signed a sister-city agreement between Karachi and Houston on Wednesday at the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce-USA (PCC-USA).

The proposal was floated in April 2008 when a two-member delegation comprising PCC-USA President Muhammad Saeed Shaikh and Senior Vice President Abdul Qayyum Khan Kundi met with Kamal in Karachi and suggested that a sister-city collaboration should be formed between Houston and Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamal appreciated the efforts of PCC-USA and advised that these kinds of agreements have a long-term effect but the key is to continue working on projects and ideas. He said this agreement will become a benchmark and will bring the two countries together.

Kundi said this agreement is the first step towards developing Houston as a distribution centre for Pakistani imports. He encouraged Pakistani-Americans to form joint ventures with Pakistani exporters to create sales offices in Houston for sports goods, carpets, furniture and textile imports.
