A ‘Micro Health Insurance Scheme’ will be started this year for the poor, Sindh Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed said on Tuesday.

About 3.2 million poor and disabled people will be registered under the scheme and they will get health cards, the minister said. The premium for the health insurance of these people will be paid by the government and each person will be able to avail health facilities up to Rs25,000 per year.

Dr Ahmed said that Sentinel Centres have been established under the chief minister’s Hepatitis Programme where patients suffering from Hepatitis are being registered. The federal government has prepared a PC-I of Rs1,200 million for the Micro Health Insurance Scheme. People would be registered under the scheme by Sindh Rural Support Programme.

Boys up to 18 years of age and girls till marriage can get benefit from this insurance, the minister said.
