Baber Awan, minister in-charge for the Cabinet Division, on Saturday informed National Assembly that Capital Development Authority (CDA) would complete development work on Sector D-12 in June this year. In written reply to a question, the minister said after completing the development work, CDA would start giving possession of plots to allottees. He said the CDA had allowed some organisations to use green belts as parking lots in different areas of the capital including Sectors G-5/2, G-7/1, F-5, F-6, F-7, G-5, G-9/1 and G-8/1. On the number of mobile phone towers in the city, he said Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had not yet conducted a survey to count these towers. He said most towers were developed close to residential and commercial areas to ensure mobile services in populated areas. According to information provided by mobile phone operators, around 26,300 towers had been installed by six mobile phone operators in the country, he said. He said about 80 percent towers were either inside or close to residential and commercial areas and mobile phone operators had not been instructed by the PTA to shift them away from residential areas. However, the operators had been directed to adhere to radiation emission limits as specified in ICNIRP guidelines, he said. daily Times
