* Times of India report says police will bank on fund transfer record

LAHORE: The crime branch of Mumbai police does not have the voice samples of top Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LT) operatives who spoke to the gunmen during the November 26 terrorist attacks in the city, Times of India newspaper reported on Monday.

“It may turn out to be a challenge for the crime branch, when the case comes up in court, to establish the voices of the terrorists’ handlers based in Pakistan,” it said.

One of them used a satellite phone to stay in contact with the gunmen until they reached Mumbai, the newspaper said. “The phone was recovered from the MV Kuber trawler,” it said.

Crime branch officials told the newspaper the US Federal Bureau of Investigation might have the samples but they might not have been procured through official channels.

“As the city police don’t have voice samples, they are relying heavily on the financial transactions [to fund] the terror operation,” the newspaper said.
