LAHORE: An influential family in Balochistan has claimed that it has the highest number of members holding public office, BBC News reported on Wednesday. The BBC Urdu service quoted its sources as saying that at least eight members of Nawab Zulfikar Magsi’s family held positions in various arms of the government, adding that two more were vying for public offices in the upcoming Senate election. The BBC said the Magsi’s held the post of the Balochistan governor, one of them was a provincial minister, another held a mayoralty, two had seats in the Senate, two were members of parliament, and one was a member of the Balochistan Assembly. Among those in power were Zulfikar’s wife, two brothers, stepbrother, brother-in-law, and his brother-in-law’s wife, the report said. The family proclaimed it had the highest number of family members simultaneously holding public offices, the largest in the country’s history, and so far no-one has challenged that assertion, the BBC said. The report said it was surprising that the family belonged to Balochistan, which is usually the most under-represented province in the country. daily times monitor
