The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to constitute a task force to ensure prompt alternative water supply through water bowsers in sectors facing acute water shortage.

One such sector is F-6/1 where residents have been facing serious problems because of a faulty tubewell. Two of the streets — 35 and 36 — are the worst hit. For almost 20 days now, there has been no regular supply.

Taking notice of this prolonged problem, CDA Chairman Tariq Mahmood Khan has directed the relevant staff to enhance the number of bowsers and also involve private ones. He also ordered immediate repairs of out-of-order bowsers and instructed that clean water be supplied to the affected areas.

Director General Water Management Sanaullah Aman told ‘The News’ on Tuesday that the chairman had ordered that all these matters be streamlined within a month. “The proposed task force would be responsible for immediately responding to any crisis situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a bid to create awareness among people about the right use of water, the CDA plans to launch a one-month campaign on water conservation from March 1.

This will involve lectures in educational institutions on the importance of conservation besides urging residents not to waste water on washing cars and driveways.

Following the campaign, the CDA intends to impose fines on people found wasting water or obtaining it illegally. “We want to ensure that everyone gets his due share of clean water on a regular basis,” said Sanaullah.
