RAWALPINDI: The Defence Ministry has supplied Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) with Rs 20 million for development work in NA-54 following the grant’s approval by the prime minister. The provincial government at the same time is to transfer Rs 19 million development funds to the RCB coffers for PP-10 shortly in line with the chief minister’s directions, it’s learnt. Officials told Daily Times on Thursday that the Defence Ministry had directed the RCB to use up the Rs 20 million funding by the end of current fiscal. They said the RCB planned to spend the money on installing tube wells, constructing water reservoirs and improving water supply network. The officials said Rs 9 million would be used for improving water supply to Afshan Colony, Naseerabad and Peshawar Road’s Lanes 1 to 7, and Rs 7 million on water schemes of Dhoke Hassu, Gulshane Nayyab, Churr Chowk, Misrial Road, Tench Bhatta and adjoining areas of NA-54. As for PP-10, the officials said the chief minister had approved the Rs 10 million development grant for the constituency and the funding would be released to the RCB in the next few days. Now, the RCB will have to submit the PC-1 or cost estimates of the schemes recommended by PML-N MNA Malik Abrar to the district coordination officer (DCO) for administrative approval. The officials said of Rs 19 million, Rs 3 million each would go to water schemes in Dhoke Ameer Hamza, Dhoke Gujran and Muhammadi Colony. They said at the cost of Rs 7 million, the RCB planned improving water supply to and installing tube well and underground water tank in Naseerabad, Gulistane Mehria, Habib Colony, Shehzad Colony, Chak Madad Khan and other areas of PP-10. The officials said the RCB would replace old and rusty water pipelines. They said Rs 2 million would be spent on the construction of a road in Faisal Colony and Tench Bhatta. aamir yasin
