Chaklala Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer Khursheed Ali Monday expressed his resolve to evolve an effective strategy to combat encroachment problem in the cantonment areas.

The CEO vowed to clean all the areas falling under the limits of Chaklala Cantonment from encroachments and to take action against those officials of the enforcement cell who are backing the encroachers.

While talking to ‘The News’, Khursheed Ali said that he has received a large number of complaints from the citizens of different areas against presence of encroachers especially of pushcarts owners.

He said that a large number of citizens from different areas including Kamalabad, Dhoke Syedan, Tariqabad, Dheri Hassanabad, Ghaziabad Colony and Kutchery Chowk had approached him with the complaints regarding presence of a large number of encroachers who have established their businesses in main bazaars. He said taking notice of the complaints he directed the enforcement cell to take an action. He said the enforcement cell removed all pushcarts from Kutchery Chowk and their owners were challaned and fined.

On gratification charges levelled on enforcement staff by the people in their complaints he said that he is taking notice of this matter. He has asked the people to point out the names of the owners of pushcarts and stallholders so that he could take action against the officials involved in receiving bribe. After getting the names of the concerned staff member, I would take legal action against them including sacking from services.

Besides evolving the strategy, the CEO assured to pay surprise visits to areas like Tariqabad, Dheri Hassanabad, Kamalabad etc to ascertain the real position.

At the same time, Khursheed Ali said that the board representatives also face problems while carrying out operations against illegal activities, which include great resistance from the area people, traders and shopkeepers. Though we have police force, yet the police personnel remain a silent spectator while resistance is shown from the traders, shopkeepers and people of respective areas. Besides holding negotiations with the representatives of the traders association, we would improve our security sector to make effective operations if any kind of resistance is provided by any trader or people, he stated.
