SHABAB-e-Milli Lahore has announced a referendum on kite-flying and Basant, maintaining that it would stage sit-ins outside the Chief Minister’s House and Governor’s House if permission was granted to celebrate it.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Shabab-e-Milli Lahore President Ahmed Salman Baloch and other office-bearers, including Abid Mir, Majeed Ghuri and Farhan Shoukat, said that a protest demonstration against kite-flying and Basant would also be organised outside the Lahore Press Club on Sunday (today).

They said a referendum would be organised in connection with kite-flying and Basant on 15 February in which people of Lahore would give their opinion in this regard.

“We will also meet the provincial law minister and district administration to convey our concern in this regard,” they said.

They said that besides claiming many innocent people’s lives, the kite-flying had caused great damage to Wapda and other public properties.

They demanded the Punjab government impose a permanent ban on kite-flying.

They also demanded the government take notice of showing of Indian movies in buses of inter-city routes, saying it was a crime both in terms of law and morality.
