Duty relief allowed on car parts
RECORDER REPORT
ISLAMABAD (July 06 2008): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed concessionary rate of 10 percent customs duty on import of certain sub-components and components used in the manufacture of car air-conditioners. The board has amended SRO 565(I)/2006 through SRO 712(I)/2008 on Saturday.

According to the notification, components like sensor bulb insulator (Pakistan Customs Tariff heading 3919.9090); switches (PCT 8536.5091) and idle pulley (PCT 8483.5090) have been included in concessionary regime. The board has also changed the specification of a component used in the manufacture of CNG dispensers. Zero-percent customs duty would be applicable on import of 'Hose Assembly 1 Ft, 2 Ft, 12 Ft and 14 Ft'.

The FBR has allowed concessionary import of bulbs up to 20 watts at 10 percent duty used in the manufacture of industrial switchgears and high voltage electrical switches. The board would also levy additional customs duty on the import of road wheels (complete), rims (excluding cast), disc, caps, ornaments and weights in kit form for the assembly or manufacturing of motor cars and vehicles.

The rates of additional customs duty as specified in the SRO 693(I)/2006 would be applicable on imports made for assembly or manufacturing of motor cars and vehicles. The FBR has withdrawn 15 percent customs duty on import of alginate through an amendment in SRO 567(I)/2006.
