RAWALPINDI: Punjab Information Technology (IT) Secretary Shumial Ahmed Khawaja on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the poor facilities at Nawaz Sharif Public Park, Shamsabad and directed the Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) to improve the park within one month.

He gave these instructions during his visit to RTMA and city district government’s different departments. On the directives of Punjab Chief Secretary Javed Mehmud, he reviewed performance of these departments. Executive Director Municipal Services Imtiaz Ahmed Malik and Town Municipal Officer (TMO) Rawal Town Irfan Saleem Butt and other senior officers were accompanying him.

Khawaja took serious notice of poor recreational facilities in the park. He said after a month he would visit the park to see the recreational facilities. He warned the RTMA officials of strict action if they failed to meet the deadline. He also directed the contractor to procure new games for amusement park to provide maximum facilities to children.

Enforcement mechanism: During his visit to Benazir Bhutto Shaheed (BBS) Road, he directed Rawal Town TMO to improve enforcement mechanism in RTMA and not allow anyone to dump building material on vacant plots along the main roads.

He visited different under-construction buildings on BBS Road and took serious notice of not allocating proper parking place and not constructing the buildings according to approved building plans. He censured the Rawal Town TMO.

Building bylaws: Khawaja directed the building department of the town to implement laws and ensure provision of emergency exits and fire fighting measures in high-rises. Taking note of collapsed sewerage system at Rehmanabad, he directed the Municipal Services EDO to start de-silting of nullahs in the city and improve sewerage system.

He visited Government Postgraduate College for Women, 6th Road, Satellite Town and directed the relevant officials to complete construction of girls hostel within stipulated time. The hostel would accommodate 750 students.

He also visited Hashmat Ali College for Boys, Government Girls Degree College, Satellite Town, B-Block and inspected the under construction buildings.
