LAHORE: The computerisation of land records of the provincial capital will take 25 years at the least, and it will require 100 years for the said task to be carried out in the province, Member of Punjab Assembly (MPA) Mian Naseer Ahmed said on Monday.

He was debating upon a question raised by Revenue Minister Haji Muhammad Ishaq concerning the computerisation of land records of the city’s districts, during the Punjab Assembly’s 11th session. Ahmed questioned the revenue minister about the time duration and funds required for the computerisation of the city’s land records. In his reply, Ishaq said there were 115 mozaz in the city, out of which 109 had already been computerised. He added the estimated cost of computerisation of the two tehsils was Rs 250 million.

In his counter argument, Ahmed pointed out there were 371 mozaz in Lahore, and the 109 mozaz that had been computerised were done so in the time span of four to five years. He said the government was spending Rs 1.5 billion on the computerisation of land records, adding that the House should be informed about the project in detail.

Senior Adviser to Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa said the CM had already ordered the computerisation of land records. He said work on the computerisation of land records had been started in 11 districts of the province, adding that the task would surely be completed by 2010. During the question and answer session, out of 21 questions regarding the Revenue Department, only six were discussed and answered.
