THE staff of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) knocked down another 107 iron gates in various blocks of Allama Iqbal Town on Friday making a total of 247 such barriers, which have been eliminated to rid the locality of these fences during the three days’ operation.

According to a press statement issued on Friday, LDA was all set for launching such campaign in other localities as well with a view to eliminating traffic hazards from LDA’s scheme area.

These demolished gates had been put up without any lawful authority and were causing trouble for the general public. The LDA staff removed these gates with a view to eradicating hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic as well as the movement by pedestrians who had to cover longer distances for getting to their destinations.

Meanwhile, staff of the Town planning wing of LDA sealed six enterprises which were illegally carrying out commercial or industrial activities in residential areas near Ghazi Road, College Road, Town Ship, here, Friday. These included Crown Marble, Irfan & Co Marble, Irfan Welding Plant, Auto Zone Workshop, Malik Estate Builders and Pehlwan Chicks.

Lahore Development Authority’s anti-encroachment drive is going on in its scheme area and utility area of private housing schemes with a view to purging these vicinities of illegal structures and other disorders that create hurdles in pedestrians’ movement, smooth flow of traffic as well as quick disposal of storm water from roads.

Lahore Development Authority has urged residents of its schemes’ area for voluntarily eliminating all encroachments without further delay, failing which they will have to bear the demolition charges as well. The encroachers will also be dealt with under sections 33, 34 and 40 of LDA Act 1975.
