LAHORE: The Punjab Governor, Salman Taseer, said on Thursday that in case the Sharif brothers were disqualified there were ways out and things could be worked out.

He said this in an interview with Geo News. When his attention was drawn to the fact that if disqualified, the two brothers would not be able to sit in the assembly or become prime minister or chief minister given the bar on holding office for beyond two terms, Taseer said the new constitutional amendment could remove that restriction, and added that there was a provision of presidential pardon for the convicted to reach the the assembly. “There are ways, and things could be worked out later.”

He said that he didn’t see Nawaz Sharif’s call as a challenge because the PML-N had no capacity to launch a sustained agitation. The governor said that the lawyers’ long march would be a single event that may attract some public attention for the time being but it would finish and be forgotten very soon. The governor said that if Shahbaz Sharif was disqualified, someone else having a majority in the provincial assembly would replace him.
