AHMEDABAD: India’s Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial remarks on Ajmal Kasab have “immensely helped Pakistan,” which was being isolated internationally, Congress spokesperson Rajiv Shukla said.

“The remarks made by the chief minister are very serious because it has helped Pakistan in diverting the attention at a time when Pakistan was getting increasingly isolated,” Shukla said while talking to reporters.

The Congress spokesperson also demanded apology from Modi and said that the Gujarat Congress president would write a letter to the BJP president, seeking his views on the remarks.

Shukla said that at national level, the BJP had supported the UPA government on the issue of terrorism as the newly-enacted NIA (National Investigating Agency) Act had been passed in the Indian parliament with the support of the main opposition party. Modi had said that even in India, mere statement of the accused before a high-ranked police officer was not regarded as evidence under the existing laws.
