ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company’s broadband service showed a 48 per cent growth in the last quarter of 2008.

According to a PTCL spokesperson, within one and a half years of its broadband launch, the company has over 100,000 broadband customers in over 100 cities and towns across Pakistan, leading to proliferation and awareness of broadband services.

Year 2008 was very significant for PTCL broadband service during which it achieved two unique distinctions of hitting ‘a hundred’ in October making it the first company in Pakistan to spread its broadband coverage to over 100 cities and then two months later it also became the first company to have over 100,000 broadband customers.

Before PTCL’s entry into the broadband market in 2007, the facility was available only in three major cities of the country. Since its broadband launch in May 2007, the PTCL has made the technology affordable by lowering barriers to entry, by bringing the service within reach of a common user and by continuous improvement in customer service and complaint management.

PTCL now has its broadband services in over 120 major cities and towns including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Hala, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Larkana, Multan, Bhaipheru, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Attock, Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Peshawar, Quetta alongside other small towns and cities.

The company said the expansion of broadband network would continue, providing more of its landline subscribers with an opportunity to experience the latest in broadband and related technologies.
