QUETTA: Balochistan Education Minister Shafiq Ahmed Khan has dispelled the impression that Sardars and Nawabs were against education and development in Balochistan, and said veteran Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Attaullah Mengal had been provided land by the government for setting up a school in Wadh Tehsil of the Khuzdar district.

He was speaking at a function held by the Society for Community Support for Primary Education Balochistan (SCSPEB) here on Thursday. He appealed to Balochistan MPAs to spend 25 per cent of their funds on education in their respective constituencies for bolstering education in the province.

The minister said the incumbent government had so far upgraded 113 schools and efforts were underway to upgrade other schools in the province. He deplored that the education sector was neglected in the past and previous governments gave scant attention to the education sector in Balochistan.

Earlier, the Managing Director of SCSPEB, Irfan Ahmed, briefed the minister on the performance of the organisation in the province. The minister lauded the performance of the organisation and gave an assurance that he would extend full cooperation to it for improving the education sector in the province.
