ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in its next board meeting is likely to approve Rs 250 billion PC-1 of a project to establish a multipurpose fruit and vegetable market at Sangjani.

The consultant hired by CDA has prepared the PC-1, which would be presented in the next board meeting for approval, a CDA official told Daily Times on Friday.

The consultant has designed the market spread over 55 acres area on modern basis, he said.

According to the design it will have a proper cold storage system, which will ensure quality of fruit and vegetables even in extreme summer season, the official added.

He said the design of the market comprised construction of warehouses, ice factories and sale points for refrigerated trailers, growers’ exhibition area, packing facilities, weighing bridges, trading halls or blocks and a small automobile workshop and auction platforms.

The official said the market would have a mosque, restaurants and an administrative block with a conference room and public toilets. The CDA will also make efforts for the establishment of branches of banks and Pakistan Post at the new fruit and vegetables market, he added.

The official said the authority would also establish solid waste management system to ensure clean and healthy environment in the market. Under the plan, fuel and CNG stations will also be established to facilitate the visitors and shopkeepers, he added.
