LAHORE: Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr. Rizwan Naseer reviewing the data of emergencies and rescue operations for the year 2008 said that the Service rescued 151567 emergency victims in 2008 as compared to 46141 in 2007.

Data reveals that the Service has conducted 143557 rescue operations in 2008 in comparison with 49985 rescue operations during 2007 in all major cities of the Punjab. Regardless of increase in number of emergencies the Service has maintained its average record response time of less than 7 minutes and provided citizens with a sense of safety.

The Service has expanded to Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Murree in 2008 and the expansion of Service to remaining districts of Punjab is underway.

The total number of emergency victims rescued by Rescue 1122 were 151567 during 2008, which include 58355 in Lahore, 18991 in Faisalabad, 6540 in Rawalpindi, 19627 in Multan, 12414 in Bahawalpur, 8243 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 7659 in Rahim Yar Khan, 3444 in Sialkot, 7653 in Gujranwala, 2075 in Sargodha, 1375 in Murree and 5191 in Sahiwal.

The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded during 2008 include 42% Road Traffic Accident, 54.8% Medical & Other emergencies, 3% Fire incidents, 0.13% Building collapse incidents and 0.05% Explosions.

Although there are several incidents where professional working of the Service restricted the emergencies turning into disasters this was observed during several bomb blast incidents at Naval War College and FIA Building. FIA Building blast where over 200 persons were affected but due to the effective & timely response and professional management the incident was smoothly managed and timely search of bodies trapped under the debris was also completed by the Disaster Emergency Response Teams of Rescue l122.
