LAHORE: Lahore District Consumer Court (DCC) Judge Syed Maruf Ahmedali imposed a fine of Rs 5,875 on a courier service for not delivering a birthday cake on time.

Complainant Iftikhar Ahmed submitted that on he shipped a birthday cake for someone in Karachi, and paid Rs 200 to have it delivered on the same day, however, the service failed to do so. Ahmed served a legal notice on the respondent, but no reply was received. He requested that the court award Rs 1,000,000 in damages, refund freight charges and the legal fee. The counsel for the defendant claimed that the cake could not be delivered due to operational problems, and they had tendered an apology, which had been refused. The judge ruled against the defendant and awarded Rs 5,000 in legal fees and a refund of the shipment charges amounting to Rs 875 within 10 days. staff report
