LAHORE: Health experts have warned the people of possible hazards of gas heaters during winter season.

People must take safety measures while using gas heaters in rooms, Jinnah Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervaiz said on Sunday.

He said that gas poisoning was very complicated and not easy to treat. He said that people should ensure that room heaters were properly switched off before going to bed, and that the gas supply was closed at the source. He said that a majority of the people use gas heaters in airtight rooms, which resulted in gas poisoning. He stressed that a window or a ventilator must be kept open for adequate intake of oxygen. Services Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Javed said that combustion of natural gas produced carbon monoxide, which was hazardous to life. Declined level of blood oxygen adversely affects entire human body, including brain, liver, kidneys, muscles and the living tissues, he added. app
