In Order To Reduce Environmental Pollution, LDA Permits Rooftop Gardening In Lahore

In order to lessen environmental pollution, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in Pakistan recently declared that rooftop gardening will be permitted in Lahore. Environmentalists who think this action will help address the city’s air pollution problem have welcomed this decision.

In Pakistan, Lahore experiences high levels of air pollution, just like many other cities. The high number of vehicles on the road, industrial emissions, and the burning of fossil fuels for energy are the main causes of this. Growing more urban plants, which remove carbon dioxide and other air pollutants, is one way to reduce air pollution.

Rooftop gardening in Lahore will be done in accordance with the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) directives and LDA’s construction regulations. Commissioner Lahore M. Ali Randhawa made this announcement at a meeting on water and the environment. He continued by saying that each department would be given a deadline for putting court orders into effect in Lahore.

LDA also shared the following guidelines for rooftop gardening in Lahore:

The rooftop gardening policy should be followed by all structures located within LDA’s administrative boundaries.
Each building’s rooftop will be designated for plantations and gardening on 50% of the surface area.
Buildings that are currently being constructed as well as those that have already been developed should abide by this policy.

Note: LDA has given a 15 days deadline for all buildings to implement this policy, else wise, the following actions will be taken against them

  • Securing the building’s grounds.
  • FIR against those who violate these rules.
  • Demolishing.
  • Utility services being cut off.
  • Significant fines or penalties.

A creative answer to this issue is rooftop gardening. It involves cultivating plants on building rooftops, which offers several advantages.
