ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) will set up two high-tech cinemas in the city to provide entertainment facility to its fun-starved residents. A senior CDA official said that the authority would set up Cineplex and Image Maximum (IMAX) cinemas to revive cinema culture in the federal capital. Quoting the analysts, he said that Islamabad might be the only capital in the world having no cinema. He said that Islamabad had Kohsar Cinema, Melody Cinema and Nafdec Cinema with two screens, but none of them was functional nowadays. The official said the CDA was mulling to build Cineplex near Lake View Park and IMAX in sector G or I. The authority may also hire an international firm to build IMAX, as it is a high-tech three-dimensional (3D) cinema and not yet so common in the country, he said. The IMAX process uses two camera lenses to create the illusion of 3D in depth and represent left and right eyes. The two lenses are separated by an interocular to an average distance between a human’s eyes. Meanwhile, Jamal Shah, a noted artist, welcomed the CDA’s decision on establishment of the cinemas. He urged the government to restore Nafdec cinema that had been sold. Current law and order situation can’t affect movie-going activity, as the capital residents direly demanded for it. app
