THE City District Government Lahore (CDGL), while continuing its operation against encroachments, removed illegal structures in various parts of the provincial metropolis on Thursday.

According to a press statement, a special squad of the Shalimar Town removed encroachments from the GT Road Copper Store, the road from Shalimar Chowk to Shalimar Link Road and Majanwala Ada and ordered the illegal occupiers to remove cattle from Larex Colony, the Main College Road, Chaman Hotel, Baghbanpura, Settler Chowk, Multan Colony and Masjid Maye Kameen. During the operation at Wagah Town, the squad got FIRs registered against the cattle owners of union councils 37, 38, 39 and 40.

In Nishter Town, a special squad removed temporary and permanent encroachments, including walls, ramps, counters and tandurs from Chungi Amarsidhu, Rohi Nullah, Kehna Noa, Sooye Aasil and the Ferozpur Road. The squad also retrieved two plots of 67 and 42 kanals from land grabbers on the Aahuwala Road.

Meanwhile, another special squad got FIRs registered against the urea sellers who were selling urea at high prices. The officials said cases were registered against Abdul Waheed of the Rajpoot Traders, Naveed Ahmed of the Malik Enterprises of the Raiwind Road, Muhammad Akram of the Chaudhry Traders and Inamullah and Sheikh Khurram Shehzad Khad, dealers of Ghala Mandi in different police stations.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Thursday carried out a grand anti-encroachment operation in Moon Market, Gulshan-e-Ravi, razing a total of 200 platforms, counters, kiosks and encroachments. Officials of the Estate Management Directorate and Town Planning Wing of Lahore Development Authority and representative of the Water and Sanitation Agency jointly carried out the operation.

As many as 30 shuttering were also demolished and 37 hording placed in the roads were removed. The LDA also issued notices to owners of 11 generators, asking them to move their property.

All these encroachments were set up in violation of building by-laws and were impeding movement by pedestrians, causing traffic jams and blocking storm water drains.

The Lahore Development Authority has urged residents of its schemes to voluntarily remove all encroachments without delay.

It said failure to comply will result in action and those responsible will have to bear demolition charges as well. Encroachers will also be dealt with under sections 33, 34 and 40 of LDA Act 1975, the statement said.
