THE Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Thursday launched an anti-encroachment drive in it’s and private housing schemes.

The drive has been started to remove illegal structures, which impede pedestrians’ movement, traffic flow as well as quick disposal of rainwater from roads.

The drive was launched on the directives of Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

The Estate Management Directorate and Town Planning Wing of LDA as well as Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) staff jointly carried out the operation. On the first day, razed 34 constructions, which were put up at Guru Mangat Road, Gulberg, officials said. The staff also razed two illegally constructed shops on Gulberg Drain in S Block area besides issuing warning notices to owners of different structures at MM Alam Road. Officials said that LDA has urged residents of its schemes for voluntarily eliminating all encroachments without further delay, failing which they would have to bear the demolition charges and they would be punished under sections 33, 34 and 40 of LDA Act 1975.
