KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering Mohammed Adil Siddiqi has said that work on 29 schemes of water supply and drainage is progressing fast in various districts of Sindh and Rs 939.288 are being spent for this purpose during the current financial year.

He said that 138 new schemes estimated to cost Rs 6339.482 million have been included in the 2008-09 ADP.

Talking to various delegations who apprised him about water and drainage problems of their respective districts, the minister informed that ongoing development schemes include 15 water supply and 14 drainage schemes and their completion would benefit 21 districts of Sindh.

Adil Siddiqi assured the delegations that concerned officials have already been told to ensure quality of work and all schemes be timely completed to that their benefits reaches the people without any delay.

He said that out of 138 new schemes incorporated in the 2008-09 ADP, 60 pertains to water supply and 78 to drainage and Rs 1,432.102 million earmarked for them in the current financial year.

He pointed out that out of 60 new water supply schemes, 17 will be implemented in District Umerkot while Karachi will have seven, Thatta six, four each in Mirpurkhas and Sanghar, three each in Kashmore and Shikarpur and two each in Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Nawabshah, Tando Mohammed Khan.

Adil Siddiqi said that to improve the drainage system in Sindh, 20 schemes are being launched in Larkana District alone besides 12 in Kashmore, Sanghar eight, Umerkot seven, Thatta six and four each in Dadu, Shikarpur, three each in Badin, Sukkur, two each in Qambar and Ghotki and one each in Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Naushehro Feroze and Tando Mohammed Khan.

He told the visitors that government is making all out efforts to improve the water supply and drainage systems in the province. app
