The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh on Wednesday was informed by the investigation team probing cases against Bahria Town that they had “irrefutable evidence” that the management of the real estate giant had taken illegal possession of several hundred acres of government land in Karachi in connivance with local officials.

The information was shared during a board meeting of the accountability watchdog chaired by NAB Sindh Director General Altaf Bawany.

The investigation team apprised the board that the management of Bahria Town, in connivance with relevant public office holders and officials of revenue dept, district Malir, MDA and Sindh Building Control Authority took illegal possession of 2,156 acres of govt land situated on the main superhighway (M9) in violation of Colonisation of Government Land Act 1912, MDA Act 1993 and Sindh Building Control Ordinance 1979.

The board was also apprised that a concise statement was also submitted in the Supreme Court highlighting the facts regarding blatant violation of laws and rules.

The board appreciated the efforts of the investigating team that concluded the case by engaging Survey of Pakistan, Ministry of Defence for demarcation of the land under illegal possession after which Bahria Town was restrained by the apex court from undertaking further development.
