Bomb hoax at Ganga Ram

* Civil Lines Police Station SHO says addicts banned from entering hospital grounds

Staff Report

LAHORE: A drug addict claimed to have planted explosive material inside Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday night. He had said this to take ‘revenge’ for having been woken up by the hospital administration.

The police arrested the addict but released him after investigations because nobody filed any complaints against him. The Ganga Ram Hospital administration does not allow anybody to sleep or sit in its gardens due to security reasons. The hospital administration has undertaken this initiative because the city police had suggested them to take security precautions. Ganga Ram Hospital security guards woke several addicts that were sleeping in the hospital’s garden on Tuesday night. After waking them, the security guards asked them to leave. One of the addicts, Hamid, became infuriated and told them that he had planted a bomb inside the hospital and that it would blow up after a few minutes. The addict’s threats terrified the hospital administration and they contacted the Civil Lines Police immediately, whose officials reached the scene and arrested the addict. Sources at the hospital claimed that the addict’s threats had created panic at the hospital, adding that patients’ relatives had been terrified.

Ganga Ram Medical Superintendent (MS) Ijaz Ahmed said that the addict’s threats had only feared the administration, adding that they had immediately contacted the police out of concern for their patients.

Entry: Civil Lines Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) Taimor Malik said that during the investigation the addict told the police that he was joking and that he did not intend to create such a huge issue. Malik said that he, with the help of the hospital, had already banned the entry of addicts in the hospital lawns. He said that the hospital did not register any case against the addict because the man had not been in his senses.
