New computerised system for traffic licences soon

Staff Report

LAHORE: A new computerised system of traffic licencing will be introduced in the province, which will be linked with the NADRA database and will block the malpractices of issuance of forged licences, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shaukat Javed said on Wednesday.

He was addressing a meeting to evolve a new system of licencing in the province. He said that the new system would be completely transparent and would serve to aid the public in a better manner, adding that the system was being implemented upon orders from Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

He said that Shahbaz had allocated massive funds for this purpose. He said that the point system in the licences has already been introduced, under which continuous traffic violations would lead to cancellation of the licence. He said that a new system linked to the NADRA database would ensure the issuance of only one licence per person. He said that it would also help in identifying particulars of the vehicles. He said that traffic licences of the public would be delivered at their doorstep as part of the public service.
