Governor approves Rs 380m budget for Aitchison College

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer has approved an annual budget of Rs 380 million for Aitchison College, after presiding over a meeting with the college’s board of directors on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Aitchison College Principal Shamim Khan, Aitchison College Vice Principal Iftikhar Ali Malik, and members of the board of governors.

Taseer expressed satisfaction over the college’s achievements. He ordered that every student of the college should be granted a membership of the Bazme Adab.

Proper enrolment: Taseer ordered proper enrolment in A-Level and directed to give admission to at least 75 percent of the students who had completed O-Level from Aitchison College. He also ordered hiring of a top class software engineer at the college who would offer computer education to the students.

Improvement: He said that a Punjabi Mushaira competition would be held at the Governor’s House among 17 government institutes on December 1, 2008, in which the best performing student would be awarded the Munir Naizi Award. It was also decided at the meeting that similar competitions would also be held twice a year and cash prizes of upto Rs 100,000 would be awarded. It was also decided in the meeting that Urdu would be included as a compulsory subject in the syllabus of A-Level. staff report
