Health deptt warns blood banks of stern action

LAHORE: A spokesman for the Punjab Health Department has said that blood transfusion is a sensitive matter, therefore private and public blood banks should strictly compliance the instructions issued by health department. Strict action will be taken against those blood banks involved in violating the rules, he added.
The spokesman said that human blood is a scarce life saving source but unscreened and substandard blood becomes an instrument for transmitting life threatening viral and bacterial diseases like Hepatitis-B & C, HIV/AIDS and Malaria and recipients of unsafe blood transfusion fall victim of these life threatening infections.
He said that strict action would be taken against such blood banks which do not have proper screening, group matching, blood storage arrangements as well as untrained staff.
