The parking problem in the federal capital is aggravating with the passage of time, as Capital Development Authority (CDA) has yet to materialise its two year-old plan to construct parking plazas in the city.

After receiving numerous complaints, the Planning Wing of CDA started working on a plan two years ago to resolve the parking problem, but so far the authority has failed to construct parking plazas in the city.

A senior CDA official said that according to the plan, the authority would construct-parking plazas in different phases in the current fiscal year.

In the first phase, the authority will construct three parking plazas in different parts of the Blue Area, he said, adding that the proposed sites for the parking plazas included one near Muslim Commercial Bank, another near Savour Food and third near the mosque located at some distance from Savour Food.

Due to shortage of proper parking place in Blue Area, people park their vehicles far away from their offices, which wastes their time. Most of the people park their vehicles on the roadsides that often result in traffic jams, he added.

According to CDA building bylaws, every builder is bound to construct adequate car parking in his building, said another official of the Authority.

“The Capital Development Authority is authorised to take action against those builders who fail to provide adequate parking area,” the official added.

The official said that Capital Development Authority would construct seven parking plazas in various parts of the capital including Blue Area, G-9 Markaz and Mauve Area.
