Gojra: The ground-breaking ceremony of the 62 km long Gojra-Shorkot section of the Faisalabad-Multan motorway (M-4) was performed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on November 16.

According to a news source, the project aims to improve the country’s communication infrastructure, reduce the cost and time to travel from Faisalabad to Multan, and provide new opportunities to the people of Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Shorkot through access to bigger markets.

The M-4 Section-I (Faisalabad-Gojra) was completed in March 2015 with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank. It is now open to traffic. The next phase of M-4 will extend the completed M-I, M-2, and M-3 motorways southwards and reduce the distance between Multan and Islamabad.

During the ceremony, the PM also stated that work on the Khanewal-Multan section of M-4 was complete and would be inaugurated soon while work on the Hyderabad-Karachi section was ongoing. Furthermore, the Gojra-Shorkot section, which was estimated to cost PKR 21 billion will now be completed in PKR 17 billion.
