The Academic Staff Association of the Punjab University conducted a rally against the construction of Orange Train Project site offices on University Town 1 land. The members also symbolically blocked the campus road for one minute.
PU ASA President Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam, Vice President Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Shazia Qureshi, Dr Liaqat Ali, Dr Sajid Rashid, Dr Kamran Abid and a large number of teachers were present on the occasion. While addressing the rally, Dr Mahboob Hussain said that the bureaucracy is misguiding the government and not using the agricultural land located next to University Town 1.
The agricultural land can be purchased on cheaper rates but the bureaucracy wants to construct offices on the developed land of university in order to save the agricultural land of influential people. The Association urged the government not to compel university teachers for taking extreme steps and demanded to solve the matter on immediate basis.
