The Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore will soon get the latest landing system, which is essential to deal with poor visibility conditions.

As per an official, “the installation of Instrument Landing System category III B will be helpful in landing flights even up to 50 metres visibility.” Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority had ILS Cat II installed at the airport and the landing was not possible below 350 metres visibility.

This state of the art system is provided by Advanced Airfield Lighting System and Surface Movement Radar. Combination of these systems will facilitate precision approach and landing guidance to the aircraft during inclement weather conditions.

“The ILS Cat-III B upgrade project comprises installation of various components.
Significant work on the project which also includes installation of associated airfield lighting system on primary runway and one of the linked taxiways will be complete by December 1, 2015.
