ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has declared 108 housing societies operating in Zone-II, III, IV and V as illegal, sending a wave of consternation among citizens who have invested billions of rupees in these societies.

According to documents from CDA Planning Wing Department, 16 housing societies including Supreme Court Employees Housing Society falling in zone-II and zone-III in Sector 11, 64 housing societies including six phases of Ghauri Town, Eden Life Scheme and Ghuari Garden in zone-IV and 29 housing societies in zone-V have been declared illegal by the CDA.

“It was essential to obtain no-objection certificates (NOCs) by these societies from the CDA planning department but the society owners have failed to obtain the NOCs,” said a document that has been submitted to the CDA.

A senior official while quoting the documents said that the owner of Ghauri Town has carved out 10 phases without getting NOC and collected billion of rupees from the people.

“These 108 illegal housing societies have been raised against the master plan and they have no legal standing. A drive to demolish these societies can be launched any time,” claimed the official while requesting anonymity.

When reminded of why the enforcement department failed to stop illegal societies in the first place, the official claimed that those who have help these societies flourish will also be held responsible.

“Everything is rotten in the CDA,” he said while talking about corruption in the civic agency.
