slamabad: The enforcement wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has demolished 10% of the biggest shantytown (Sector I-11 slum) in the Federal Capital. Reportedly, Rangers personnel and police provided support to the Enforcement Wing in razing the slum.

CDA Enforcement Wing Director Mr Hamza Shafqat told reporters that 150 illegally built houses were demolished in the first phase and a fleet of bulldozers and heavy machinery was used to undertake the operation.

The slum-dwellers pelted the CDA officials and security forces with stones, while the police fired tear gas at the protesters in response.

The news source reported further that the administration had initially asked the slum-dwellers to vacate 230 plots which had been allotted to various people 25 years ago. However, the possession of the plots in question had not been handed over to their allottees.
