Call it negligence or inefficiency, but it is a fact that development work on Diamer-Bhasha dam is not yet started, despite the fact that two ground-breaking ceremonies were held by the successive governments.
The planning commission has recently asked government about the status of this life-saving project and stated that instead of just working on one-point agenda of land-acquisition, the government should actively start work on the 4500MW hydropower dam from every direction. The list of major works includes land acquisition, excavation, dam and construction of power stations.
“Once you will start work on all these phases, you will see there will be line of investors, but due to its disputed nature, no authority is ready to fund the project,” states an official. Despite the two inauguration ceremonies, the authorities have failed to show even a minor progress in this regard.
