LAHORE - A writ petition was filed Saturday in the Lahore High Court against the LDA city project and against the jurisdiction of the LDA for initiating such projects which could damage the agriculture land of Punjab.

The Judicial Activism Penal filed the petition through its chairman Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique and Advocate Munir Ahmad and submitted that LDA was constructing a project, LDA City, on Ferozepur Road near Kahna.

Being the prima facie outcome of urbanization and extension of Lahore city, such an unplanned expansion is meant for making money and against the principle of urbanization, they added.

Until 80 percent of the existing projects are not used and occupied for residential or commercialization, the panel proposed that a complete ban should be imposed on execution of such projects in order to save agriculture properties.

The counsel stated that this project would cause damage to the agriculture of the country, as the land is being reduced; resultantly production is directly being affected.

He stated that the environmental impact assessment had also not been made of this project, which was violation of the law.
He stated that the LDA could not use the power of local government and it could not extend its control to other cities.

He further requested to declare the LDA city project as illegal.
