The Civil Aviation Authority has ‘eventually’ agreed to allow the KDA to construct a road between Jauhar Chowrangi and Pehlwan Goth to provide another access to Quaid-e-Azam International Airport.

This proposal, along with another scheme to construct a road between Jinnah Terminal and University Road, had been hitting snags for last some years and scores of meetings summoned to sort out the two issues had so far proved unsuccessful. The link road between Jauhar Chowrangi and Pehlwan Goth had been opposed by the CAA from the point of view of flight safety while the alternative route to Jinnah Terminal had been opposed both by the CAA and Malir Cantonment authorities.

The Jauhar Chowrangi-Pehlwan Goth road issue was taken up a couple of weeks ago in a meeting between Haq Parast MNA Farrukh Naeem and the new DG CAA. In the meeting, also attended by Chief Engineer KDA Muhammad Yameen, the public welfare aspect of the proposal was discussed and the DG CAA agreed to grant no objection to the KDA. The road will help reduce traffic pressure on Sharea Faisal and even on Rashid Minhas Road as the Gulshan-e-Iqbal/District Central bound traffic would use this link road running alongside the fence of existing runway of Karachi airport.
