ISLAMABAD - The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project has entered in its final phase as around 90 per cent work of its Islamabad part and 80 per cent of the Rawalpindi part has been completed, an official of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) said on Thursday.

“The multi-billion project is likely to be inaugurated on the 23rd of next month,” he told APP. The project was started on February 28, 2014 with 8.5km of its part falling in Rawalpindi and 14.5km in Islamabad. He said that 68 buses had already reached in the city and special staff has been recruited for their maintenance and handling. Each bus has the facility to accommodate 100 passengers, he said. The official said that a modern system would be installed in the project to facilitate people adding that lifts would also be installed to help elderly people avail the facility. He said that two 20 feet high clock towers of international standard - one at Rehmanabad, Rawalpindi and the other at 7th Avenue, Islamabad would be also be installed. The designs of the clock towers have already been worked out, he said.
