The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has issued show-cause notices to developers of 245 illegal residential schemes out of 257.

Besides, the authority claimed to seal and demolish offices of six of the housing schemes in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana during 2014. Moreover, the LDA has also introduced a business-friendly Commercialization Policy in April 2014 and allowed annual commercialization of properties for the next 10 years.

The Town Planning Wing has collected more than Rs2.88 billion on account of commercialization fee including Rs2.25 billion under the head of permanent commercialization and the rest of amount is collected against annual or temporary commercialization during 2014. Whereas; 952 properties, which have failed to deposit the fee, despite repeated notices, were sealed during 2014.

Another project has been launched to introduce e-governance and computerization of records in LDA, which would cost Rs256 million. Due to which files of more than 80,000 plots in LDA-owned housing scheme would be scanned and digitized
