Rawalpindi: Traders of Moti Plaza, Al-Rehman Building, Gawalmandi and Ratta Amral have expressed concern over the plan to raise the height of bridges over Nullah Leh at Liaquat Bagh, Gawalmandi and Ratta Amral.

Talking to this correspondent, traders of these areas, including Mohammad Ayub, Raja Majid, Sheikh Saleem and Sheikh Athar, who are office-bearers of their respective traders and bazaar unions, said that with increase in height of bridges their offices, shops and trade centres would be covered up, affecting business activities at large.

Similarly, parking problems at their business areas would compound. They appealed to the Punjab Government, City District Government and the Rawalpindi Development Authority to consider their grievances and review the plan. They called upon the concerned authorities to enhance the height of bridges over Nullah Leh only by two to three feet so that their businesses are not affected.

Former MNA and Chairman of Implementation Committee of Metro Bus Project Hanif Abbasi, when contacted by ‘The News,’ expressed his unawareness over how much the height of bridges would be increased.

He agreed that problems could occur with regard to business activities with increase in height of bridges. He said he would check the matter with the concerned development body. Besides this, he assured to visit the mentioned sites to assess the situation and draw up a solution in this regard.
