Progress on Metro Bus Service Project reviewed

The slow pace construction work on the Peshawar Morr Interchange which is Package-2 of the Islamabad part of Metro Bus Service Project was focus of discussion during a meeting of the implementation committee of the project held here on Friday.
The meeting was held to review the pace of work and the impediments in way of the project here at the Jinnah Convention Centre. The meeting was chaired by Hanif Abbasi, the Chairman of the Metro Bus Service Project Implementation Committee.
It was attended by Shakeel Awan ex-MNA, Anjum Aqeel Khan Ex-MNA, Ziaullah Shah ex-MPA, member administration, CDA, member engineering, CDA, member environment, CDA, Islamabad deputy commissioner, district coordinator officer, Rawalpindi, and representatives of Nespak, RDA, SNGPL, Iesco and contractors.
Hanif Abbasi noted that the pace of work at Package-2 of Islamabad portion, the interchange at Peshawar Morr is slow and asked the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to arrange a separate meeting with the contractor of the said package.
The early completion of work on the Package-2 was also required for smooth flow of traffic on the 9th Avenue and Kashmir Highway, the two main roads taking bulk of traffic on daily basis He said that all the impediments, which were hindering the work on the Metro Bus Project have almost been removed. There are minor issues of shifting of services lines from different patches, which are no more hindrance to the work and contractors shall work with full throttle to complete the project on the stipulated time frame.
The meeting was informed that RDA has appointed four engineers who will act as focal persons for different packages to coordinate with different departments and contractors.
Abbasi stressed that there will be no compromise on the quality of work and material used in the project. He also asked the contractors to fully cooperate with the instruction or directions of district administration and police keeping in view the sensitivity of prevailing law and order situation. He further directed the contractors to install signboards of approved size for facilitation of the public. They should also sprinkle water at the site of work regularly and cover the work area with sheets to avoid any untoward incident. All the contractors should depute at least three persons at the sites, to guide the commuters about the alternate routes, where the roads have been blocked due to work, he added
