PM directs initiation of Lahore-Karachi Motorway project

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, has directed to begin work on Lahore-Karachi Motorway project.

A high-level meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair in Islamabad on Friday approved Public Sector Development Programme for the next financial year.

The prime minister was told that the work on Lahore-Karachi motorway project would be started by end of the current year.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said projects to be initiated under PSDP will create millions of job opportunities.

He said we have embarked upon the road to progress and projects initiated by our government will usher the country in to an era of prosperity.

The meeting approved the allocation for Construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam having generation capacity of 4500 MW, Dasu Hydro Power Project of 2160 MW, Construction of Faisalabad - Khanewal M-4 Motorway and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus project.

The meeting also approved the initiatives of Feasibility Studies for construction of New Rail Link from Islamabad to Muzaffarabad via Murree, construction of New Rail Link from Havelian to Pak China Border and linking Gawadar with Karachi through rail.

The meeting also approved approach roads to New Islamabad International Airport. It also approved new Gawadar International Airport project, jetty and infrastructure development at Gaddani, Gawadar Port Economic Free Zone project, Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute at Gawadar and Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park at Lal Sohnra Park Phase-II.

Among others the meeting was attended by Minister Finance Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and senior officials of the concerned ministries.
