Mareer Railway Bridge Project misses another deadline

Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi Development Authority, which had made tall claims of completing the second phase of Mareer Railway Bridge Project by April 30 has missed the deadline and given a new date for finishing the project.

RDA Deputy Director Umar Farooq told this scribe that almost the work on the project is completed and now task of rivets fixing has to be completed, which would be over by 10th of May.

After completing rivets work, the remaining process of the project would be handed over to Pakistan Railways for laying down tracks.

To a question that how much time, tracks work is likely to be completed by the Pakistan Railways, he said it depends upon them as how much time they want to finish it.

The work on first component of Railway bridge was initiated in September, 2012 and was to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2013. However, due to funds problem, it remained suspended for many times, resulting in delay in completion of the project. The work on first component expansion and widening of railway bridge was finally completed in November, 2013.

Work on second component commenced in December 2013, which was done on fast note without any suspension. The total cost of the project was estimated at Rs500 million, which were released in phases.

According to Railway Officials, work on tracks laying does not take much time and is carried out in three to four days. The operation of trains on new railway bridge is likely to begin from June 15
