CM inaugurates Walton-Qainchi Flyover

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Walton Flyover project has been completed within a short period of two months while a high standard and transparency have also been maintained.
Talking to media after inaugurating Walton Flyover, here on Sunday, he said that construction of Walton Flyover would lead to saving of five billion rupees in fuel annually.
He said that this project was a part of the plan to make Ferozepur Road signal-free. He said that due attention will be paid to quality, speed and transparency in the execution of development projects in future as well.
LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema gave a briefing to the chief minister on Walton Flyover project. The chief minister inaugurated Walton Flyover by unveiling the plaque and also offered Dua.
Members Provincial Assembly Ramzan Siddique Bhatti, Mian Naseer, Chief Secretary, Vice Chairman Lahore Development Authority Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, Chairman NASPAK, Pakistan Muslim League-N office-bearers and concerned officers were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the first phase of the public welfare project of making Ferozpur Road signal-free from Walton to Ferozepur Road had been completed with the construction of the flyover while work is in progress round the clock on the second phase of the project. He said that this project was scheduled to be completed in July but the way the work is being carried out expeditiously, it is hoped that it will be completed in June.
Shahbaz said that the completion of the project would not only save time of the people and streamline the flow of traffic but resources would also be saved as Ferozepur Road would become signal-free. He said that the project would also facilitate doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and patients going to General Hospital and Children Hospital. He said that completion of 872 meter long Walton Flyover costing Rs700million within 62 days is the result of the best coordination between political leadership and the agencies working on the project.
Shahbaz Sharif said that he had always believed that time was wealth and should not be wasted. He said that every moment of the nation was precious and the projects of public importance have to be completed with a national spirit. He said that energy projects will also be executed at the maximum speed. He said that completion of Walton Flyover project in a very short period is reflective of the same passion and determination of the Punjab government. He said that the flyover had been constructed within only 62 days which is a result of the blessings of Allah Almighty. He said that the first phase of the project had been completed while its second phase will be finished by the month of June.
He said that the concerned institutions have worked as a team for the execution of the project. He said that PML-N government had completed Kalma Chowk project in four months during its previous tenure while a splendid project like metro bus was opened for the benefit of the people within only eleven months.
He said that DG LDA Ahad Cheema was like a younger brother to him and was very honest and hardworking officer and that is why he has been awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the government. He said that credit for quality and early completion of Walton Flyover goes to Assembly Members Ramzan Siddique Bhatti and Mian Naseer, Vice Chairman LDA Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, concerned departments, DG LDA, contractors, Chairman NESPAK, Chairman PESPAK and other officers who worked day and night for the completion of the project.
The chief minister also thanked Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Commissioner Lahore Division, District Coordination Officer Lahore, Chief Traffic Officer and other officers and commended their efforts for the completion of the project within such a short period.
Shahbaz Sharif said that attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir is tragic and highly condemnable. He prayed for early recovery of Hamid Mir so that he could take up his journalistic responsibilities again. He said that attack on Hamid Mir is an attack on freedom of the Press.
He said that federal government will conduct inquiry into the incident and ensure punishment to the culprits. He said that the elements involved in this heinous act will soon be apprehended and brought to justice so that no one could dare attack journalists again. Later, the Chief Minister took a round of Walton Flyover.
